DJ Morris

DJ Morris is an Iraq vet who quickly found out that predatory payday loans can quickly become addicticing.

The first time D.J. sought a short-term loan, he took out a payday loan from a Des Moines storefront lender. The neon sign outfront read, “hasslefree,” “fast” and “easy.” “The first one,” he told the Des Moines Register, “was brilliant. It’s just the ones that come after that that make you get into trouble," he said.

Because there was no credit check and the money was easy to get so it became like a drug for DJ. "They know that you're going to come back looking for more," he explained.

"They will get you hooked," he said. "And in the long run they will hurt you and your family."
